Chemicals in a Biological Context: Metabolites, Drugs, and Beyond
The Chemicals in a Biological Context: Metabolites, Drugs, and Beyond workshop took place online on 13 November 2025 and provided participants with hands-on experience using EMBL-EBI tools and resources to explore the biological effects of small molecules. Through a guided case study, participants worked through workflows to investigate drug interactions with a protein target and assess downstream effects within a biological system.
During the workshop, tools such as ChEMBL were used to identify small molecule drugs and explore experimental data on their target interactions, PDBe was applied to evaluate binding details, and MetaboLights supported the investigation of small molecule impacts on biological systems.
Target audience
This course was aimed at wet-lab scientists, including cell biologists, enzymologists, biochemists, and medicinal chemists, as well as bioinformaticians and researchers exploring cheminformatics. It was designed for those interested in using EMBL-EBI data resources to interpret the biological effects of small-molecule drug interactions.
