As part of its Expert Webinar series, the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO) is preparing a webinar titled Exploring the Ethical Framework for Obtaining Material from Sentient Animals. The session will take place online on 22 January 2026. It will offer an in-depth introduction to the Ethical Framework for Obtaining Materials from Sentient Animals, a guidance document developed by the Animal Materials Working Group. Published in summer 2025, the Framework is a practical, user-friendly resource designed to support ethical decision-making in the sourcing of animal materials.

During the webinar, guest speakers involved in the development of the Framework will present its background, scope, and content, and demonstrate how it can be applied to strengthen ethical practices across a range of settings, including research laboratories, farms, zoos, veterinary contexts, and historical collections.

Target audience
This event is open to researchers, laboratory staff, ethics committee members, research managers, and others interested in the ethical review or governance of animal materials.
