PARC organised the Second Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) Boot Camp, which took place from 22 to 25 October 2024 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, under the scientific coordination of Denis Sarigiannis and Spyros Karakitsios. The program combined expert presentations with hands-on training, offering participants a comprehensive introduction to SSbD thinking and practical use of the PARC SSbD toolbox. Through interactive sessions, participants explored real-life applications of the SSbD framework and worked in groups on case studies, presenting their learnings and user experiences on the final day.

Training content
• Introduction to the EU SSbD framework and the stage-gate innovation process
• Demonstrations of real-life applications of SSbD in chemical and material development
• Hands-on training with the PARC SSbD toolbox
• Group work on case studies applying the toolbox to different scenarios

Target audience
The Boot Camp was designed for researchers, students, and professionals from industry and SMEs interested in applying SSbD concepts and assessment methods in their work. Participants were expected to have basic knowledge of exposure and hazard assessment, life cycle assessment, and the SSbD framework.

Practical details
The training was offered free of charge, although participants covered their own travel and accommodation costs.
