As part of the PARC webinar series on risk communication, PARC is organising a webinar on the "Using biomonitoring to improve risk communication in occupational health", which will take place online via Zoom on 5 May 2026, from 15:30 to 16:30 CET.

The session will be led by Susana Viegas, full professor at the National School of Public Health, NOVA University Lisbon.

What to expect:

Focusing on the practical use of human biomonitoring in occupational settings, this webinar will provide an overview of how human biomonitoring can support more effective risk communication in occupational health. It will explore how biomonitoring data can be interpreted and communicated to workers, employers, and other stakeholders in a clear, transparent, and meaningful way. The session will also discuss the benefits and limitations of biomonitoring, ethical considerations, and practical examples of how biomonitoring results can help improve awareness, support the implementation of risk management measures, and trust in occupational health programs.

Learning outcomes:

This webinar aims to support participants in translating biomonitoring findings into actionable messages that promote safer workplaces and informed decision-making. By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • understand the role of biomonitoring in assessing occupational exposure to hazardous substances,
  • explain the advantages and limitations of biomonitoring compared with environmental or workplace monitoring methods,
  • interpret biomonitoring results in the context of occupational health risk assessment
Identify key principles of effective risk communication when discussing biomonitoring results with workers and stakeholders,
  • apply practical strategies to communicate biomonitoring findings clearly and responsibly, supporting informed decisions and preventive actions in the workplace.

Who should attend:

This webinar is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including PARC partners and members of National Hubs, as well as professionals who would benefit from a clearer understanding of risk communication in the context of occupational health and biomonitoring. It is particularly relevant for occupational health professionals, industrial hygienists, risk assessors, toxicologists, and others involved in assessing, managing, or communicating chemical exposure risks to workers and stakeholders.
