PARC at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry
The 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC Europe) will be held in Vienna, Austria (11-15 May 2025), bringing together leading experts to advance environmental science and promote science-informed decision-making through collaboration and education.
Several PARC partners will present research focused on a range of critical environmental issues, including:
- Temperature and salinity effects on the growth and toxin production of estuarine cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa.
- Assessing the effects of phycotoxin mixtures on marine zooplankton, with insights from copepod responses at different life stages.
- A comprehensive approach to studying saxitoxin effects in Daphnia magna.
- RE-MIX: A new PARC initiative exploring options to assess and regulate chemical mixtures.
- Effect-based screening of chemical pollutants found in suspended particulate matter of German rivers.
- The PARC Safe and Sustainable by Design toolbox, an integrative tool for operationalizing SSbD (Safe and Sustainable by Design).
Special sessions were also organised in cooperation with PARC:
Biodiversity and Chemical Hazard/Risk Assessment: Regulatory Frameworks, Integrative Approaches and Research for a Sustainable Future
This session, co-chaired by Romana Hornek-Gausterer, Anna-Maija Nyman and Gabriele Treu, will explore:
- How current chemical Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) methodologies address biodiversity
- Knowledge gaps hindering effective ERA & biodiversity management
- Cutting-edge solutions like New Approach Methodologies #NAMs & Next Generation Risk Assessment #NGRA
- Integrative approaches that combine #toxicology, #ecology, and #socio-economic factors
Next-Gen Environmental Science: Collaborative Networks for a Sustainable Future
This session will be co-chaired by Maria Tannous, Micha Wehrli, Markus Schmitz and Shaleen Glasgow.
From PARC Junior Community, we will have three speakers:
- Maria Tannous (ANSES) that will give an introduction about PARC Junior Community
- Florian Geffroy (INERIS) with his talk on “Tissue-specific responses to a binary mixture of bisphenol A substitutes in zebrafish embryos: a focus on two estrogenic and metabolic bioassays”
- Ana Fernandez-Agudo (ISCII) with her talk on “Integrated Risk Assessment for Pyrethroids: A “Proof of Concept” approach for toxicokinetics’ supported NAMbased toxicodynamics”
Additionally, training courses will be available upon registration, offering attendees the opportunity to deepen their expertise in environmental toxicology. We look forward to welcoming you to this key event in Vienna!
