Introduction to Data Management Practices
The Introduction to Data Management Practices course, organised by the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS), will be held from 17 to 19 March 2026, in Uppsala, Sweden, with an optional pre-course Q&A session held online on 10 March 2026. This three-day course is designed to help researchers in the life sciences take their first steps towards a more structured, systematic, and reproducible approach to managing research data. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on computer exercises, participants will explore key data management concepts such as the principles of Open Science and FAIR, metadata standards, data publication, version control using Git and GitHub, and writing effective data management plans.
Target audience
This course is designed for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff members at Swedish universities who aim to develop foundational skills in research data management. Applications are also welcome from international or non-academic participants, although space is limited to 25 participants, with selection based on eligibility, motivation, and diversity considerations. No programming experience is required.
