Shaping the future ativities in hazard assessment and innovative risk assessment
The annual face-to-face meeting of PARC work packages 5 'Hazard assessment' and work package 6 'Innovation in regulatory risk assessment' took place in Berlin from May 29th to June 1st. The goals of this meeting were to share project updates, identify opportunities for increased collaboration, and prepare the work plan for the third year of PARC (from May 2024 to April 2025).
The meeting was divided into several breakout sessions as follows:
• work package 5: non-genotoxic carcinogens, metabolic disruption, endocrine disruption, immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity, BPA alternatives, toxins
• joint work package 5 and work package 6: Physiocologically Based Toxicokinetic (PBTK) modeling, Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs), endocrine disruption, mixtures (immunotoxicity and developmental neurotoxicity), environmental toxicity, systems toxicity, and Integrated Approaches to Testing and Assessment (IATAs)
• work package 6: scientific results and regulatory handling of the effects of mixtures, regulatory acceptance and uptake of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), opportunities for harmonizing and improving environmental risk assessment, real-life exposure for consumers and workers
European agencies such as the European Environment Agency ↗ (EEA), European Food Safety Authority ↗ (EFSA) and European Chemicals Agency ↗(ECHA) also provided their input on the work done in both work packages.
We are pleased to report that this meeting was successful. Projects in both work packages are progressing well, and the productive discussions held during the meeting will guide the work in work packages 5 and 6 in the upcoming year. The outcomes of this meeting will include follow-up discussions focusing on cross-activities across endpoints and work packages.
