Research & Innovation Agenda
The Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of PARC serves as the main roadmap guiding PARC’s activities from 2022 to 2029. It also outlines the main objectives, challenges and expected impacts of the partnership. The development of the SRIA is based on a co-creation process involving about 200 partners from 28 countries, including national agencies, universities, research organisations, ECHA, EFSA and EEA. It started from a comprehensive analysis of the current state-of-the-art, gaps and needs in chemical risk assessment, as well as on a wide consultation with relevant stakeholders.
The SRIA defines PARC’s vision of supporting the transition towards Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA), aligned with the European Green Deal and the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. It integrates the One Health approach, recognising the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health, while reinforcing the science-to-policy interface to ensure research outputs are directly usable for regulatory decision-making.
PARC addresses key challenges such as emerging chemical risks, combined exposures, sustainable and safe-by-design chemicals, and the development of innovative tools including New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), advanced modelling, human biomonitoring, and the use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance risk prediction and decision-making. A strong focus is placed on FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), ensuring transparency, data sharing and long-term usability of scientific outputs.
The partnership is structured into nine interconnected work packages covering management, science-policy agenda, synergies and communication, monitoring and exposure assessment, hazard assessment, innovation in regulatory risk assessment, FAIR data management, development of concepts and toolboxes, and
The updated SRIA reflects evolving EU policy priorities, including strategic competitiveness, sustainability, industrial resilience and the responsible integration of AI. It highlights PARC’s contribution to EU goals such as achieving a toxic-free environment, strengthening regulatory harmonisation, fostering innovation, and supporting industry competitiveness through evidence-based risk assessment.
Overall, the SRIA positions PARC as a central platform for coordinating scientific excellence, regulatory relevance and stakeholder collaboration. It ensures Europe remains a global leader in chemical safety while promoting sustainable innovation, public trust and long-term environmental protection.
