Safe and Sustainable by Design Workshop 2025
The Safe and Sustainable by Design Workshop 2025 ↗ (SSbD25), will bring together researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge and best practices on implementing the European Commission’s SSbD Framework ↗. The workshop aims to strengthen collaboration across disciplines, support the practical application of the SSbD principles, and identify strategies to integrate innovation, safety, and sustainability throughout product lifecycles.
PARC will have strong representation at the workshop through several scientific contributions highlighting the project’s ongoing work towards integrating the SSbD concept into chemical risk assessment and innovation practices.
- Fotini Nikiforou ↗ (The Environmental Engineering Laboratory (ENVE Lab) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) ↗) – Applicability of Exposure Assessment Tools in the European Commission’s Safe and Sustainable by Design Framework Across the Innovation Process; as well as:
- An Interactive and Integrative System to Support the Practical Implementation of the https://www.marionegri.it/eng/homeSafe and Sustainable by Design Framework;
- Ana Virgolino ↗ (Instituto de Saúde Ambiental (ISAMB) ↗) – Building knowledge, competence, and cultural change for Safe and Sustainable by Design: Insights towards a learning agenda
- Kathrin Schwirn – The European Commission’s Safe and Sustainable-by-Design Framework: Bridging Innovation and Legislation
- Gianluca Selvestrel ↗ – (Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research ↗) A Harmonised Framework for Integrating Multiple In Silico Models in Chemical Hazard Assessments under the Safe and Sustainable by Design Framework: A Case Study on BPA and Alternatives
- Anezka Sharma ↗ – (Masaryk University Brno ↗) Predictive Toxicology for Textiles: Quantitative Structure–Activity Relationship-Based Prioritisation of Skin Sensitisers Aligned with the Safe and Sustainable by Design Principles
- Josefine Kjaer Helgstrand ↗ (IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute ↗) – Application of Socio-Economic Assessments in Safe and Sustainable by Design Framework
- Vrishali Subramanian ↗ (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, RIVM ↗) – Formulating the SSbD Problem: What do Policy and Industry Perspectives Advice?
This workshop represents a key opportunity to connect PARC’s research with broader European initiatives promoting sustainable innovation. Participants are encouraged to join the discussion and contribute to shaping the next generation of safe and sustainable solutions.
