Science to policy dialogue network

PARC supports the EU’s chemicals strategy ↗ for sustainability towards a toxic-free environment and the Zero Pollution ↗ ambition of the European Green Deal. Therefore, PARC will develop and evaluate methods for the next-generation chemical risk assessment. PARC will also and investigate the obstacles to its implementation to help define the way to overcome the challenges.

In PARC’s Rolling Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), the challenges are presented as well as how PARC will respond to these and how it will achieve its expected impacts. PARC’s mission can only be achieved by implementing a strong science to policy dialogue network which accompanies the realisation of the long-term visions of the European policies.

A strong science to policy dialogue is what PARC strives for. On the one hand, it requires that the regulatory challenges are communicated to the scientific community. On the other hand, the developments and opportunities in the new emerging fields of research must be presented to the regulatory community to work together identifying potential applications and their limitations.

During 2022 and 2023, several workshops have been held to facilitate the dialogue, such as on the indicators of the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability as well as on key areas of regulatory challenges (KARC ↗) from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA).

In 2023, PARC also contributed to the workshop of the European Commission on the roadmap for phasing out animal testing in chemical safety assessments.

Stay up to date on the latest trainings in the field of environmental monitoring and biomonitoring of chemicals to improve the overall quality of chemical risk assessment and management globally.

PARC has the ambition to make 70-80% of PARC-generated data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR). This requires extensive technical development to provide the infrastructure needed, as well as training of FAIR implementers to support PARC partners and projects to implement the FAIR workflows being developed. We are connecting PARC partners and external stakeholders, from both the research and the regulatory domains, to apply the long-term visions of the European policies related to chemical safety.

PARC is inviting the whole community of professionals in chemical risk assessment in Europe and worldwide to share their knowledge and ideas on the PARCopedia platform launched in November 2023. PARCopedia is a not-for-profit, ad-free knowledge management and social media environment.
