Workshop on phasing out animal testing
On 11 and 12 December 2023 a workshop with PARC participation will take place in Brussels and online.
The workshop title is "A roadmap for phasing out animal testing in chemical safety assessments".
During the workshop speakers from the European Commission, the EU regulatory agencies EFSA, ECHA and EMA, NGOs, industry associations and research institutes will discuss possible approaches for the uptake of non-animal methods in chemical legislation.
On 12 December Matthias Herzler from the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC) will introduce the guiding principles towards “Next-Generation Risk Assessment” (NGRA), and at 1:30 PM PARC will host a workshop with the same focus. Here the draft guiding principles for developing an approach to establish NGRA as the first line of risk assessment in all major EU chemical legislation will be discussed.
The workshop is organised as part of the Commission's response to the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) "Save Cruelty-free Cosmetics - Commit to a Europe without Animal Testing".
This response provided an overview of the EU legislative and policy framework regarding the use of animals for testing purposes and outlined additional actions to accelerate the reduction of animal testing as well as the roadmap discussed in the workshop.
