PARC's contribution to the EU competitiveness
Chemical risk assessment and EU competitiveness: PARC’s contribution
The European chemical industry plays a crucial role in Europe's economy, supporting strategic sectors such as energy, transport, healthcare and clean technologies. At the same time, it faces the challenge of remaining globally competitive while transitioning towards a cleaner, safer and more sustainable economy. Scientific innovation and advances in chemical risk assessment have an important role to play in supporting this transition.
This document outlines how the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC) contributes to strengthening European competitiveness through improved chemical risk assessment. It highlights how innovative scientific methods, harmonised approaches and accessible data can support industrial innovation, increase regulatory predictability and help reduce the economic and societal costs associated with chemical pollution.
The publication presents PARC's contributions across several areas, including Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD), Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), data sharing and reuse, and the development of transparent and interoperable tools for chemical safety assessment. It also explores how PARC's activities in occupational health, environmental monitoring and human biomonitoring contribute to identifying chemical risks, protecting human health and supporting safer and more sustainable production and consumption.
By bringing together these activities, the document illustrates how chemical safety and industrial competitiveness can reinforce each other. It provides an overview of PARC's contribution to a more innovative, resilient and sustainable European chemical sector, while maintaining high standards of protection for human health and the environment.
