Health risk assessment: Principles and applications
The Health Risk Assessment of Chemicals: Principles and Applications online course, taking place from November 9–13, 2026, is organised by the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Delivered through live online lectures, exercises, and group assignments, the course provides a comprehensive introduction to the scientific principles and practical applications of chemical health risk assessment. Participants will gain an understanding of the full risk assessment process, including hazard identification, hazard characterisation, exposure assessment, and risk characterisation, while learning how data from animal, epidemiological, in vitro, and exposure studies are evaluated and integrated to support regulatory decision-making. The training also covers the derivation of health-based guidance values such as Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) and Margins of Safety, using practical case studies to demonstrate how research informs risk assessment activities across academia, industry, and regulatory authorities.
Target audience:
The course is intended for PhD students and other participants from academia as well as participants from authorities and industry.
