PARC International Board sets the course for global chemical safety
On 23 September 2024, PARC’s International Board (IB) met to explore ways to enhance chemical safety and maximise PARC’s global impact. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, responding to urgent needs, and embracing innovation to advance chemical risk assessment.
Strengthening global partnerships
The IB stressed the importance of global alignment, highlighting synergies with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ↗ and Canada’s rapid chemical surveillance expertise ↗. Expanding partnerships beyond Europe - particularly in addressing consumer goods - was set as key priority.
Staying flexible and relevant
Discussions emphasised the need for rapid response mechanisms to tackle emerging challenges and policy gaps. Focus was set on the global plastics treaty ↗, pesticide reduction ↗, and better management of chemicals in electronics ↗. By sharing data and expertise, PARC can adapt its research to support international priorities.
Embracing innovation
The IB encouraged PARC to integrate artificial intelligence, real-time monitoring systems, and advanced human biomonitoring techniques to deliver faster, more precise insights and support evidence-based policymaking.
With the International Board as an integral part of its governance, PARC continues to set the standard for collaborative approaches to chemical safety - paving the way for a healthy future across borders.
