Can better data sharing strengthen the link between environmental health research and policy?
Understanding how environmental exposures affect human health increasingly depends on large and complex datasets. However, fragmented data and inconsistent practices often limit their effective use.
A recent study proposes the FAIR Environment and Health Registry (FAIREHR), a global platform designed to make research data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. The registry would allow researchers to preregister studies and share key information on study design, methods and data management.
By improving transparency and enabling easier access to ongoing and completed studies, FAIREHR could help policymakers identify relevant evidence more efficiently and support more informed decisions.
The initiative also aims to strengthen collaboration between scientists, regulators and other stakeholders, highlighting the growing importance of data governance in environmental health.
