PARC WP5 updates its portfolio to bridge regulatory needs and accelerate next-generation chemical hazard assessment
The Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC) has updated its Work Package 5 (hazard assessment) portfolio following a second prioritisation round, ensuring closer alignment with evolving regulatory needs across the European Union.
Four new projects have been launched focusing on developmental and reproductive toxicity, developmental immunotoxicity, sexual dimorphism in hepatotoxicity, and the regulatory readiness of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). These initiatives aim to address identified data gaps and strengthen the integration of mechanistic, non-animal approaches into chemical hazard assessment.
By incorporating input from stakeholders and aligning with the Key Areas of Regulatory Challenge defined by the European Chemicals Agency, PARC WP5 is supporting the transition from research prioritisation to practical implementation, contributing to more effective, science-based regulatory decision-making under the EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability.
