As part of the Webinar Series on Risk Communication, PARC will host a webinar on Building Trust through Transparency which will take place online, via TEAMS on 10 September 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 CET. The session will be led by Christina Rolfheim-Bye, Communication Director at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

What to expect:

Focusing on the role of transparency in public health risk communication, this webinar will examine how trust in public health authorities may depend on transparency - including when it may hurt. It will discuss the importance of being transparent about uncertainties, explaining why recommendations change, and openly acknowledging the scientific disagreements that may arise. Participants will also explore when transparency is especially challenging and how risk communicators can respond when scientific evidence prompts them to communicate a lower level of risk than that perceived by the public, interest groups or the media.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand why trust is best built before, rather than during, a crisis;
  • Recognise the importance of listening to the public as a core element of effective risk communication;
  • Reflect on the resources and organisational commitment required to implement effective and trustworthy risk communication.

Who should attend:

This webinar is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including PARC partners and members of National Hubs, as well as professionals involved in public health, environmental and chemical risk assessment, risk management, and science communication. It will be of particular interest to risk communicators, researchers, policymakers, public authorities, and others seeking to strengthen public trust through transparent communication practices.
