Enhancing the capabilities and impact of laboratories across Europe

As part of PARC efforts to build infrastructure and human capacities, we have launched a new interactive map for the PARC laboratories. This tool shows information on human biomonitoring laboratories across Europe, including what chemicals they test for and in which parts of the human body.

The map makes it easy for users to find and identify these laboratories quickly and visually. You can see what each lab tests for and get their contact information if you need more details.

“The creation of the PARC Laboratory Network will interconnect and coordinate laboratory networks within PARC, including human biomonitoring and environmental laboratories. The ultimate goal is to achieve long-term sustainability beyond PARC, providing a robust basis for policy-making to support chemical safety,” highlights Ana Cañas, director of the National Center for Environmental Health, which is part of the Health Institute Carlos III in Madrid, Spain.

“Being part of the European Laboratory Network offers numerous advantages”, the expert states. It will enhance the visibility of laboratories at both European and international levels, allowing them to gain recognition and increase their impact. Furthermore, it will enable the exchange of vital information among the networks, fostering collaboration and innovation. Laboratories will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of networking activities, contribute to the harmonisation of chemical analysis processes, and stay at the forefront of new developments and analytical methods,” adds the expert. “Additionally, the network will promote the implementation of rigorous quality assurance schemes, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in laboratory results”.

“One of the main challenges we face in creating and expanding the European Laboratory Network is ensuring that this initiative receives the visibility it deserves and to reach out to all potential laboratories that may be interested in joining the network,” Cañas stresses.

In the coming years, laboratories that test the environmental, such as air, water, soil, and those that do toxicity tests on biota will also be added in the map.

All this information will also be available in a user-friendly dashboard on the PARC website, making it easy for everyone to access detailed information about these laboratories.
