Workshop advances PARC efforts to link human biomonitoring with environmental exposure
A hybrid workshop hosted by the Laboratoire National de Santé ↗ (LNS) in Luxembourg brought together experts from across Europe to advance the Human Exposure project under PARC. Held from 9 to 10 April 2025, the event focused on strengthening harmonisation and coordination efforts between partners, particularly in relation to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).
Organised by Matteo Creta, who also co-leads the project, the workshop provided a platform to update participants on the progress of the working group, align methodologies, and explore ways to better integrate human biomonitoring with environmental exposure assessments. A strong emphasis was placed on the harmonisation of protocols, especially within the framework of the PARC Aligned Studies and related sampling campaigns.
Beyond technical coordination, the workshop underscored the broader value of this work.
By harmonising exposure assessments, we aim to improve the scientific basis for risk assessment and chemical safety regulation, thereby contributing to public health protection and evidence-based policymaking across the EU, said Matteo Creta.
Recognising the project's complexity and diversity of perspectives, the working group has established regular bi-monthly meetings and annual hybrid workshops to ensure continuity and foster cross-partner collaboration.
