Introduction

Sharing knowledge and exchanging experiences plays a pivotal role in the successful application of SSbD. Open discussion supports informed decision-making by leveraging expertise, applying best practices, and reducing the likelihood of failure. In addition, collaborative dialogues within the SSbD user community enable multidisciplinary networking and cooperation between actors and support newcomers in the field.  

Currently, two platforms exist which support community exchange, aiming to support communication in the SSbD multi-stakeholder environment: The SSbD user community at PARCopedia and the IRISS community space.

While the IRISS community space facilitates knowledge sharing and exchange between actors of distinct value chains with the aim to support integration of SSbD into innovation, the SSbD user community at PARCopedia offers a platform for discussion and exchange of experiences on scientific topics on e.g. relevant methods and strategies. Both platforms are considered complementary and interaction between both is envisioned, bridging industry and scientific discussion.

The PARCopedia group on SSbD intends to foster an open communication of stakeholders on SSbD. The group can be used to share information of general interest, to announce events and latest developments, to pose individual questions on SSbD to the group community or to discuss dedicated topics of relevance for SSbD.  

Current discussion topics include data management and FAIR data, NAMs for SSbD, sustainability assessment, and SSbD tools and methods. However, new topics of interest can be initiated based on the individual interest by every group member.  

Within the discussion group, participants are identifiable by name and are listed in the SSbD group member list. Members can invite additional people to the group. It is possible to stay informed about new discussion entries by subscribing to email notifications.  

PARCopedia is the online knowledge management and community platform of the EU Horizon Project PARC. To participate in PARCopedia, a simple registration with full name, email address and affiliation is required.

IRISS network on SSbD

IRISS ↗ („International ecosystem for accelerating the transition to Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design materials, products and processes”) was an EU Horizon Europe project that aims to connect, synergise and transform the SSbD community in Europe and globally. The project has transferred into a permanent IRISS SSbD community which connects and fosters cooperation between organisations to share knowledge and best practices on SSbD. Next to a knowledge hub providing general information on SSbD, discussion is organised in specific spaces related to value chains like automotive, construction, electronics, energy materials, fragrances, packaging and textiles. In addition, IRISS is offering tailored training sessions via its community space.  

The community is open to all actors with professional interest in fostering SSbD practices. To become a member, registration is needed here ↗.
