PARC Interview

How PARC supports Safe and Sustainable by Design?

This video features Denis Sarigiannis, recorded during the PARC Consortium Meeting in Dublin in June 2026, which brought together partners from across the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC).

Denis is affiliated with the National Research Foundation in Greece and is a professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has also been affiliated with Johns Hopkins University and Yale University.
In the video, Denis explains how PARC research on Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) is contributing to the development of a toolbox to help industry implement the framework designed by the European Commission for assessing chemicals, materials and products that are safe and sustainable by design.

The toolbox is intended primarily to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), but can also be useful for public authorities. It aims to provide a transparent, practical and fair approach to assessing safety and sustainability.

Denis also highlights how the toolbox can support innovation by helping industry develop new solutions while reducing uncertainty and the risk of making costly mistakes. The ultimate goal is to enable the development of innovative products that are safe for people and the environment.
