PARC Interview

Understanding the hazards of bisphenols and mycotoxins

This video features Maria João Silva, recorded during the PARC Consortium Meeting in Dublin in June 2026, which brought together partners from across the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC).

Maria João, who works at the National Health Institute Dr. Ricardo Jorge in Portugal, explains how the research carried out for PARC focuses on the hazard assessment of chemicals and contributing to the regulation of prioritised chemicals, including bisphenols and their alternatives, as well as unregulated mycotoxins and their effects on human health and the environment.

The research highlights the genotoxic and endocrine-disrupting effects of some bisphenols and shows that some of the analogues used as replacements may also require further regulatory attention and action. It also identifies the need for further research into the toxicological properties and potential health effects of mycotoxins.

The research also addresses chemicals that can leach from plastics used in everyday products, highlighting the importance of understanding their potential impacts on human health and the environment.
